How I work...

I work best with folks that find themselves mired in the swamp of the changes in their life and the emotions that surround these changes. Sometimes these changes are harder due to our painful pasts and sometimes they are hard because of what is happening today.

For some of us, this can lead us down a shame spiral whether we are aware of it or not.

We often forget that swampland is very fertile ground. Lots of growth can happen from that place.

I believe that therapy is a relationship between two equals. And only if I know my stuff, can I help you through yours. I believe we are all resilient. If not, you wouldn’t be reading this right now.

In our work together, we will dig in to the words you use to describe yourself and your world.  We’ll look at where you’ve come from and where you are headed. We’ll work to define the roles you have in your life to help ensure that you have balance as you define it.

My goal is to help you find equanimity and to learn to find your way back to that place of mental calmness when life gets overwhelming.

To boil it all down…

I am a strengths based therapist that views problems from a trauma informed, structural family therapy perspective.  I work to help you learn to feel safe inside your body so that as troubling life can be, you can open up the space to respond instead of react.  It’s about progress not perfection and learning that you are enough today just because you are you.  We will work to help you identify your values and beliefs so that you consistently live inside of your integrity.

Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.
